Significant weight loss is a milestone achievement, but folds of loose skin and sagging tissue can hide the results of your hard work. Lower body lift surgery addresses this skin laxity, typically in the abdomen, hips, buttocks, and thighs, to restore a smoother, more toned appearance.

Male and female body lift patients from cities like Munster and Crown Point, Indiana, come to Schererville for surgery with Dr. Rebecca Garza. As an accomplished board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Garza is a trusted choice for patients seeking to put the “finishing touches” on their weight loss.

What Is Lower Body Lift Surgery?

A lower body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy or circumferential lipectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to address sagging skin, excess fat, and weakened muscles on the abdomen, groin, waist, thigh and buttock areas in one procedure. This comprehensive surgery is an excellent option for patients who have experienced significant weight loss or have loose skin due to aging or pregnancy.

Complementary Procedures

After lower body lift surgery, some patients may choose to have additional procedures once they have given their bodies enough time to recover. By staging their surgeries in this way, they can achieve a more comprehensive transformation. These may include:

  • Liposuction to further refine contours by removing stubborn fat deposits.
  • Breast lift to lift and reshape sagging breasts and remove excess skin.
  • Arm lift to restore a firmer, sleeker contour to sagging upper arms.

These procedures can enhance the overall outcome of your lower body lift by addressing specific concerns. Dr. Garza will discuss these options during your consultation and tailor a treatment plan to meet your unique needs.

What To Expect From Your Lower Body Lift Surgery

Lower body lift surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you can return home the same day. You will be placed under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Dr. Garza makes circumferential incisions—usually just above the buttocks, around the hips, and to the low abdomen just above the pubic area. This band of tissue resembles a belt, hence the term “belt lipectomy.” She carefully trims away the excess tissue and removes local fat deposits. The remaining skin and tissues are then tightened and repositioned before the incisions are sutured closed.

Lower Body Lift Recovery

Recovery from a lower body lift generally involves taking 3 to 4 weeks off work. You may need to monitor any surgical drains for the first week and will need to wear compression garments continuously to aid the healing process. Dr. Garza will provide you with detailed postoperative care instructions to ensure a safe, smooth recovery.

Lower Body Lift FAQs

Is lower body lift surgery suitable for weight loss?

No, lower body lift surgery is not a weight loss procedure. It is designed to address excess skin and tissue after significant weight loss or due to other factors.

Can I have children after a lower body lift?

We generally recommend you complete your family before undergoing a lower body lift, as pregnancy can affect the results. However, if you want to enjoy your smoother, slimmer body before having children, it is possible to have children after the procedure.
